Baby Quilt: Scalloped Diamonds

As promised, a finish:

Scalloped Diamonds: a baby quilt

I love it! Too bad I have to send it away....

You see, aside from me, I only have boys in my house (including my rabbits). So I don't usually have the chance to make super girly things. And I am super girly!!

I had a wonderful time quilting this project, with a different FMQ pattern for each print and an orange peel design in the cream background. I left part of it unquilted in an echo of the diamond motif.

Once I decided to have curved corners (oxymoron? you know what I mean...) I knew that a ruffle was in order. Because, you know, the quilt wasn't girly enough yet ;)

Here's the lovely thing - my layout was based on/inspired by a design by M-R from Quilt Matters (she'll be presenting trapunto on the Something New Sampler blog hop). If you follow her blog, you'll know that she has a lovely mix of traditional and modern style sensibilities. She created a modern quilt, whereas my take looks very traditional. I love how one block layout can lend itself to such a range of fabrics and ideas!

This quilt will be heading off to my husband's cousin, who just had a baby. Of course, it's been sitting around forever waiting for me to complete the finishing touches, but it's not entirely my fault - she had the baby early! Oh those darn babies, not listening to our schedules ;).

I might have to make another one of these. Sigh. I don't want to send it away...
